Landry Shamet tests positive for Covid-19
Shamet has been tested positive for coronavirus, leading the Los Angeles Clippers to close the facilities. He will now have to wait to test negative to return playing
This Friday, Los Angeles Clippers announced the closure of its facilities after detecting a positive for coronavirus among the members of the staff. The franchise opted for a healthy cut and did not want to risk the integrity of its players and coaching staff a few days after traveling to Orlando. Just 24 hours later, journalist Shams Charania has revealed that Landry Shamet is the player diagnosed with the virus.
Thus, the 23-year-old guard must complete the quarantine process and test negative for up to three COVID-19 tests before being able to join his teammates. Franchises are expected to be integrated into the Disney World bubble between July 7 and July 9, so Shamet will have to wait to return to competitive discipline.
This week, the NBA issued a statement in which it reported that a total of 25 positives among the 351 players who underwent tests as of June 23, in addition to ten members of the different technical bodies of the 30 franchises.
The Clippers will land in Florida with the second-best record (44-20) in the Western Conference, just behind their Los Angeles neighbors, the Lakers (49-14). Both teams start as two of the great favorites to conquer the championship and will be in charge of starring in one of the two games scheduled for the first day of the season’s resumption, on July 30.
